Sopore Municipal sweepers cry for salary

Sopore, May 16 (RNA): Sopore Municipal Council sweepers on Thursday staged protest against non-payment of their salaries for the past five  months.

Scores of sweepers assembled at Iqbal Market Sopore and raised slogans in support of their demands.

The sweepers said that they have suffered immensely due to non-payment of their wages.

They said that without dumping site, they are facing hardships as they are unable to dump tons of garbage in town. The protesting sweepers including women while demanding redressal of their long pending demands said that we have been ignored badly by the department as we are facing hard time to manage this garbage in the town.

We have approached several times with the higher authorities but no one seems to be interested to address to our woes,” they said.

The protesting sweepers while alleged Municipal Council Sopore for creating the mafia there said that few employees have been illegally appointed there which is against government order. They also said that officials at department are also misusing funds which in resulting sweepers are suffering as five had gone they are yet to receive wages.

The protesters however appealed Governor Satya Pal Malik and Deputy Commissioner Baramulla to intervene into the issue sothat they will not suffer more.

Meanwhile, Executive Officer Municipal Council Sopore Mohammad Latief when conatced termed all allegation baseless and said that already employees has been assured that within days they will get their pending salaries. (RNA)
