President MC Ang welcomes Probe, but accuses EO of playing ‘spoil sport’

Says, will expose every officer and bureaucrats involved in the MC Scams at an appropriate time

Srinagar, May 15 (RNA):  Welcoming the probe ordered by the Divisional Commissioner, the president of the Municipal Council Anantnag Wednesday said that he was open for any kind of enquiry but added that there were some corrupt people in the MC who wanted to sabotage his Pro- People initiative. Addressing a press conference at his residence in Housing Colony, Anantnag, Hilal Ahmad Shah dared  the Probe committee to dig out the ‘illegal building permissions’ he has been accused of granting . He said he was ready for every kind of probe and would cooperative with them.

“If we have done anything wrong in building permissions, let the committee underscore that. We are ready to cooperate.” Said Shah. He however, accused Director urban Local Bodies, Kashmir and other officers of shielding some ‘ corrupt’ people in the MC and said, he had written to the director about some ‘frauds and bungling’ in the MC soon after assuming office but added that nothing has been done by the directorate as of now. He added that there were some employees in his council who had tainted past but they were also some good and honest people who need to be encouraged.

When asked would he name the bureaucrats whom he has accused of indulging in corrupt practices, Shah said that he will mention every bureaucrat who is involved in MC Anantnag bugling at an appropriate time.

The President who is a local congress leader said that he and his other councilors wanted to bring development in the MC areas but alleged that Executive Officer was a major impediment in achieving the desired results. He said the public representatives should not face the bottle necks in undertaking developmental projects.

Shah accused EO of the council of having granted various ‘illegal building ‘permissions himself and said that needs to be probed. He alleged that the track record of the EO, MC Anantnag has been dubious as he has been involved in alleged molestation, illegal appointments and other scandals in other MCs also.

Meanwhile when RNA team spoke to many stakeholders including traders, businessmen, students, civil society, responsible citizens and others, the anger against the MC authorities was quite visible. They alleged that the MC has been ruined by the corruption and nobody was able to stem that out from the system. They urged Governor to restore the prestige of the Council and bring all those to book who have been involved in loot and other alleged bungling in the MC. (RNA)
