NITI Ayog invites Babar Afzal, as the Special Guest of India at GES 2017

PM Modi, will inaugurate the Summit and Ms Ivanka Trump will lead the US delegation

Srinagar : India is hosting the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) this year during Nov 28-30th, 2017 in Hyderabad, the technology and innovation hub of India. Prime Minister Modi, who has championed the start-up and digital India initiatives, will inaugurate the Summit and Ms Ivanka Trump, Advisor to the US President, will lead the US delegation. The theme of this year’s Summit is Women First, Prosperity for All and will have eminent speakers with diverse backgrounds and leaders in their fields share their experiences. GES this year will be attended by more than 1500 global entrepreneurs and investors who will have the chance to interact with India’s most enterprising individuals who have pioneered innovation and generated immense value creation for not just Indian economy but global economy.

In the meeting Babar shared his journey and start-up details with the CEO of NITI Ayog, Amitabh Kant and how he is building a platform to attract global investments into Jammu and Kashmir across the pashmina industry and also use pashmina to contribute in the peace process in the region. His start-up initiative “Pashmina Goat Project” aims to preserve, enhance and re-imagine the authentic handmade pashmina heritage and explore the possibilities of sustainable luxury development through a first ever initiative called the Global “Luxury Pashmina Dialogue” Series. Amitabh Kant offered and extended full support to his initiative. Babar also presented his book “6 TIMES Thinner” to Amitabh Kant during the meeting. Babar is developing the thought leadership to build a lasting case for the key economic driver industry of J&K. This high level exclusive dialogue series between Thought Leaders, Government, Retail, Luxury Stakeholders, e-Commerce Drivers, Environment, Trade Bodies, Fashion Designers, Financial Institutions, Global Apparel Brands, Tourism Experts, Academic Institutions, Luxury Brands is to discuss regulatory issues, Macro-Economics, and consumer trends. He is exploring opportunities to innovate growth strategies and further accelerate the growth of the Pashmina Industry of J&K.  Babar’s startup is the first Enterprise in the state of J&K that has signed an MoU with Deloitte as a Partner.

Babar was also profiled by TIME magazine in it’s “Genius Issue” in the Above & Beyond section where only ten people have been profiled in the past one decade. He, has been quoted many times as the most credible man on Pashmina in the world, and the voice for sustainable luxury pashmina of Indian Himalayas known for his advocacy and art contribution in the pashmina eco-system in Himalayas. Last year he was picked up to speak in London along with Andrew McAfee, Principal research scientist MIT, Alexander Betts Director University of Oxford, Thor Bjorgolfsson Iceland’s sole billionaire and Shekhar Kaphur,  Bollywood filmmaker and philosopher. He was also amongst the 13 Innovation Fellows Globally who have been offered the WIRED Global Innovation Fellowship of the Rumi Foundation.
